The Dental Implant Procedure: A Closer Look

Chrysalis Dental Centres provide various dental implant procedures; although we specialize in providing full arch dental restoration. Full arch restoration involves replacing all of the teeth from either the upper arch, lower arch or both. The entire procedure can be completed in only one day, including implantation and the fitting of your new, non-removable teeth as well as removal of any existing teeth.

Preparing for your Procedure_MG_4085-small

Prior to coming in on the day of your dental implant procedure, there are a few steps that must be taken first. Before anything else, you’ll need to come in for a consultation. There you will meet with your surgeon and treatment coordinator to receive all necessary information, discuss implant detail, and to decide when you will have your implant procedure performed.

You will also need to schedule an appointment to have an impression made and to sign the informed consent documents, which give permission for the surgery. Our nurse will then review your medical history and provide you with appropriate fasting instructions.

The Day of Your Procedure

If you are receiving a full arch procedure, on the day of your procedure we can arrange to have our car service pick you up or, if you’re coming in from more than hour away, we can reserve a room for you in a nearby hotel.

When all patients arrive on procedure day, you come into our facility you will be greeted at the door and seated by a member of our staff. Next, you will meet with your doctor to review the details of your implant surgery.

Following this morning meeting with your doctor, you will have any necessary blood work performed. However, please note, that not all patients will require this step.

Procedure Timing

Single Tooth: Your procedure will last anywhere between 1-2 hours, including recovery time

Full Arch: Your procedure will last between 4-5 hours, including recovery.

Our recovery rooms are appointed with comfortable La-Z-Boy ™ reclining chairs along with private television and free WiFi. There, you will be closely monitored by our registered nurse. A light lunch is provided to you, free of charge, and specialty meals such as Kosher, Halal and vegan are available upon request.

Fabrication and Fitting_MG_3920-small

Our onsite lab will fabricate your new teeth prior to the implant procedure based on the impressions that were taken at your earlier appointment. Having the lab onsite also means that our technician will be present to ensure that the correct fit, colour and all other technical aspects have been met. If adjustments are required, our technician can perform them immediately.

Next Steps

Full Arch Patients

After four to six months the dental implants will have integrated with your jaw and your prosthesis will be removed and replaced with a new one that is reinforced with a titanium bar for additional strength. At this time, we will make any adjustments that you request to the shape and shade of your teeth.

Single Teeth

On the day of your procedure, we will place a tooth on your dental implant that will look and feel like a normal tooth. After four to six months, it will be replaced with a new one made of porcelain.

The insertion of your permanent teeth is either performed at our location or, in the case of a referred patient, in your referring doctor’s office. The same is true for the final prosthesis (after four to six months).

Once your permanent teeth have been placed, you will return for hygiene checks a few times per year, just as you would for regular teeth.
